Industry Use Program

In order to promote innovation and contribute to the development of Japanese industry, we, Research Institute for Information Technology of Kyushu University, provide large-scale computing services to the commercial/private sector using our own research computing systems and application programmes.
As an application type, it is possible to choose between a public results type, in which the results of the use are disclosed after the end of the use, and a private results type, in which the results are not disclosed.

1. Eligibility for use

  • The use must be approved by the Computer Access Review Committee.
  • The use must be made in Japan.
  • The proposal must be for peaceful use.
  • Comply with the rules and regulations governing the use of Research Institute for Information Technology of Kyushu University.
  • The use must be only for the purpose of the approved proposal.
  • Consideration should be given to human rights and the protection of interests.
  • The use must conform to the "Bioethics and Safety Initiatives" of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
  • The use must conform to the "About Security Trade Controls" of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
  • In principle, proposals must be submitted by a single company, but it is permissible for a company that develops software used in the implementation of the proposal or a member of a company involved in the joint research to be included as a user.

The use by researchers from overseas companies will be reviewed by the Computer Use Review Committee based on the Guidance for the Management of Sensitive Technology in Relation to Security Trade (January 2008, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), which will make the final decision on whether the use is acceptable or not.

3. Rules of use

The use of the computers must comply with the regulations on the use of the research computer system of the Research Institute for Information Technology of Kyushu University.

With regard to private-sector use, users are required to comply with the internal regulations governing private-sector use of the Research Computing Systems of the Research Institute for Information Technology of Kyushu University.

4. Usage issue review

On the basis of the use for peaceful purposes, the Computer Applications Review Committee will carry out a comprehensive and expert review of the scientific and technological relevance, the need to use the facilities and equipment, and the feasibility of using and developing the facilities and equipment.

5. How to apply

After filling in the following URL form (Microsoft Forms), please inform us by email that you have submitted a private use application via the form.

For the assessment, a detailed calculation plan is required that provides the basis on which the desired resource volumes are required.
Please refer to the sample below and describe it in the usage plan section.

Example)

It is assumed that XX cores (XX nodes) and XX GB of memory are used per calculation.  
In addition, the calculation time is XX hours per calculation, which is performed in XX parallel.  
This is repeated XX times to select XX patterns of candidates.  
This means that the computing resources required are about XX node hours product and the computing time is expected to be XX hours.  

6. Notification of adoption results

Once the application has been received, it will be reviewed and notified in about one month.

7. Submission of pledge

Companies that have been selected for a proposal are required to submit a written pledge to the effect that they will comply with the above-mentioned eligibility requirements after notification of the adoption result.

8. Reporting of results, etc.

The results report must be submitted within 30 days after the end of the assignment period, regardless of whether it is public or private.
In the case of the public type, the results are published immediately, but the publication of the results can be postponed for up to two years if the prescribed procedure is followed.
In the case of private type, the results are not made available to the general public.
In the case of an the public type project, you may be asked to make a presentation at a symposium hosted by the Center.

9. Disclaimer

For matters relating to the use of the calculator, the Center accepts NO liability for any adverse consequences arising from the programs, data and operations used by the user.

10. Handling of Intellectual Property, etc.

In principle, intellectual property generated through the use of the Center belongs to the proposing company.
However, it is assumed that the recognition of inventors as joint research implementers, such as facility-sharing technical advisory researchers, will be handled in accordance with the University's intellectual property policy and other relevant policies.

11. Others

  • Travel and accommodation expenses are not subsidised.
  • The personal information provided through this call for proposals will only be used for the purposes of the use proposal screening and system use.
  • When a proposal is adopted, the title and company name of the proposal as stated in the computer use application form will, in principle, be made public as publicly advertised information.
  • After the end of the proposal, the name and affiliation of the responsible person and the title of the project may be published on the website and in publications.

Notes

  • All prices listed above include consumption tax.
  • Points are valid until the end of the fiscal year in which they are purchased.
  • Points can be used across all node groups.
  • Points cannot be carried over to the next fiscal year, and no refunds will be made for used or unused points.
  • The minimum purchasable unit is 1,000 points.
  • The basic fee is charged regardless of whether the shared type or fixed type is selected.
  • The basic fee includes the right to use 1 TB of storage.
  • Payment of the basic fee alone is not permitted; applicants must select either the shared type or fixed type in combination with the basic fee.
  • For resource usage of less than one node or less than one hour, points are consumed in proportion to the actual amount of usage, based on the rates shown above.
