Call for Exploratory Research Projects (JHPCN-Q)

The Information Infrastructure Research and Development Center, Kyushu University (hereafter "the Center") invites applications for exploratory research projects that are expected to serve as a stepping stone toward JHPCN collaborative research,
and for projects that are expected to produce outcomes by utilizing the Center’s research computing systems.

For selected projects, the Center will cover the full usage fee.

What is JHPCN Collaborative Research?

JHPCN invites annual collaborative research projects in interdisciplinary fields that utilize large-scale information infrastructure, including the following areas:

  • Applications of ultra-large-scale numerical computation
  • Applications of ultra-large-scale data processing
  • High-capacity network technologies
  • Research integrating the above into ultra-large-scale information systems

For more details, please visit the JHPCN site:

This Exploratory Research Program (JHPCN-Q) is designed to support the establishment of research teams, clarification of research objectives, and exploration of directions using supercomputers for projects expected to evolve into JHPCN collaborative research.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Must be eligible to apply for the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) or Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
  • The project must be a new theme that has never been selected as a JHPCN-Q project in the past

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on the following points:

  • Appropriateness of the computing plan
  • Whether the project utilizes the Center’s research computing systems and represents an exploratory theme with potential for future development
  • Demonstrated potential to evolve into JHPCN collaborative research
  • Clarity of research team structure and future research objectives

Objectives of the Program

This program supports:

  • Formation of a research infrastructure aimed at future JHPCN collaborative research
  • Concrete formulation of collaborative research themes using supercomputers
  • Initial data acquisition and performance evaluation using advanced computing resources
